Restaurant review of Italian Kitchen
1037 Alberni Street, Vancouver
604-687-2858

Our experience at Italian Kitchen was superb. Upon walking in the door of this restaurant located in downtown Vancouver one is struck by a lively yet mature ambience. I was greeted by Peter Girges one of the owners of Italian Kitchen as well as the Glowbal restaurant group. Peter was gregarious, down to earth and very accommodating.

I began with a bocochini tomato salad drizzled with vintage olive oil while my wife enjoyed a wonderful mixed green salad. Next I had a classic aglio olio linguine with roasted mixed vegetables. It had a perfect blend of garlic and olive oil. As a side I also ordered a Gnocchi which was uniquely prepared and succulent. Because the consistency of the Gnocchi was unusual I asked the chef to try one to be sure he had prepared it intentionally ultra soft. The chef came to the table personally to explain that this was simply his artistic interpretation. While not optimal for me I respected his artistic license. My wife had the penne arrabiata cooked el dente which both of us agreed was one of the tastiest arrabiata’s we have had in the Vancouver restaurant scene. We had a delicious half liter of Barolo that had already been allowed to breath for an hour or two as that vintage was also served by the glass. The meal was punctuated with appearances from Cherise and Jesse, our servers who understood food and dining as well as anyone in the business and provided interesting information about the preparation of our meals which further enhanced our dining experience. We finished our meal with a classic tiramisu. The price was commensurate with the quality of the experience.

Since writing my first review I returned for dinner and had the buffalo mozzarella salad with a combo rare tuna with gnocchi (done my way) complimented by great service led by general manager Jim Bateman with top-notch waiter Calen Nixon. The food and experience was over the top and so Italian Kitchen now takes top spot! Italian Kitchen gets top ratings 5 stars.

Restaurant review of Cin Cin Ristorante & Bar
1154 Robson Street , Vancouver

I had forgotten about this restaurant for years. When I recently revisited Cin Cin, my first pleasant surprise was being able to get a reservation for Saturday for six people calling two days before on Thursday evening. Maybe that was because I was able to connect with new manager Michael who was a pleasure to deal with that evening and who really made our dinning experience Saturday night quite memorable. When we came in at 7:30, Michael had already chosen two bottles of red wine which had been poured out in to decanters and allowed to breath for an hour. He chose the Mitolo Shiraz from Australia because he suspected that everyone at my table would love the wine which we all did. And, it was all up hill from there. I began with a great tuna carpaccio followed by aglio and olio gnocchi and finished with the apple tart and vanilla ice cream. All were superb; our friends enjoyed various entrées including steak, lamb and an array of fish and were also very pleased.

This restaurant which was buzzing, but not to busy, and we were very happy with the remarkably attentive service.

Cin Cin is another “absolute must” and gets five stars.

A must visit for any tourist and a great restaurant to have on your speed dial if you are a Vancouverite. I took my wife there and we were fortunate enough to get a seat on the outdoor patio on a beautiful summer weekend night.

Forte’s specialty is seafood and we both enjoyed a delicious fish entrée seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection, complimented by terrific wines.

The service was great with attention paid to our every need, by a very friendly team including everyone from our server right up to “Frenchy” the Maltre D. The price was commensurate with the quality of the experience.

I would highly recommend Joe Fortes.
